The authors of this book are Sean Cannell and Benji Travis. Personally, I’ve watched many videos from Think Media, the channel Sean Cannell runs. It’s one of the few channels where I learned all the basics of starting on YouTube—filming, editing, lighting, audio, and more. I truly appreciate Think Media for providing so much valuable information.

Like many of you, when I first started learning about YouTube, I searched for tutorials and watched countless videos on different aspects of content creation. However, this book serves as a structured guide—almost like a checklist—to assess how my channel is doing and figure out my next milestones, no matter how long I’ve been creating content.

Honestly, I had never considered buying or reading a book about YouTube because I’ve already watched so many videos on the topic.

But when I received this book as a Christmas gift, I quickly read through it over a few days in December. Now, I’d like to share the key points that stood out to me.

Without a strong and clear why, staying consistent on YouTube can be challenging. There will be times when we feel discouraged or want to give up. But if your why is deeply rooted, it will help you push through those tough moments and keep going.

The book provides 10 questions to help clarify your target audience, and I think they could be useful to try.

I have a general idea of who my audience is, but I hesitate to define them too specifically. With only about 50 videos so far, how can I be sure exactly who my audience is?

This also made me reflect on a challenge I’ve been facing: Should I stick to one narrow niche to clearly define my audience? Or is it okay to explore different topics as they come up? If I continue creating varied content, my audience might become diverse, with different demographics and interests. This is something I’m still figuring out.

3. Secure a Website & Social Media Handles

The book suggests securing a website URL and matching social media accounts with your YouTube channel name. Fortunately, I’ve already taken action on this!

The key to consistency on YouTube is simple: just show up and publish videos regularly. YouTube rewards creators who post consistently by boosting their videos in search results and recommendations.

But how can you maintain consistency in content creation?

Here are two effective strategies:
1️⃣ Scheduling in advance – Plan your content calendar to stay on track.
2️⃣ Batch production – Script and film multiple videos in one session to streamline your workflow.

YouTube favors creators who upload two to three videos per week, making consistency a key factor for growth.

My Takeaways:

✅ My personal schedule is to post two videos per week, aiming for 100 videos per year.
✅ To stay on track, I plan to batch process—scripting multiple videos at once and filming more than one video per session whenever possible.

Even with a simple setup, preparation takes time, from testing the camera to adjusting lighting. By filming multiple videos in one session, I can minimize setup time and maximize efficiency.

This is my immediate goal—I haven’t fully implemented it yet, but I’m committed to making it a habit.

The book emphasizes the importance of building a team for long-term success:

The book suggests that building a team is essential, especially for those balancing YouTube with a full-time job or family responsibilities. Since time is limited, it’s important to view YouTube as a long-term business rather than just a hobby.

If the goal is growth, we need to use our time wisely—this means outsourcing tasks and leveraging the expertise of others whenever possible.

Personally, I’ll keep this in mind and work toward it in the future, even though I’m not implementing it just yet.

7. Think differently: Crush conventionality p.209

To stand out on YouTube, it’s essential to think differently and break away from conventional content. The key is to deliver value in a unique way and find what makes your channel distinct.

Here are some questions to help discover your uniqueness:

✅ How can you combine past experiences with your current passion to create something unique?
✅ What are your biggest strengths?
✅ What do you wish existed on YouTube but haven’t seen yet?

This is something I need to continuously reflect on and improve step by step. My goal is to identify my strengths, embrace my uniqueness, and leverage it to grow on YouTube.
